It does not show original footage from one specific case.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Orcas rank among the ocean\u2019s most capable and adaptable hunters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Different populations pursue different prey. Some specialize in fish, while others hunt rays, sharks, seals or larger marine mammals. Many families use techniques that require cooperation, timing and knowledge passed from experienced adults to younger members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Catching food can demand considerable energy. Because of that effort, an orca would not normally abandon fresh prey without a reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Still, one strange incident proves very little.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A whale might lose its grip. It could release an item that no longer interests it. Witnesses may also interpret an ordinary movement as a deliberate offer simply because the animal happened to approach their boat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Researchers needed more than unusual stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They looked for encounters with a clear sequence. First, the orca had to approach people voluntarily. Next, it had to release prey or another item close enough for the human to notice and potentially retrieve it. Other cases involved only part of a larger catch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Most prey had already died. A few animals, however, remained alive, injured or temporarily disabled when the orca brought them near the humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This variety makes a simple local feeding habit less convincing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Had every event involved the same fish in the same region, one population might have developed an unusual hunting routine around boats. Instead, geographically separated orcas used different items available within their own habitats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Their choice of prey changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The sequence of approach, release and observation remained strikingly consistent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In almost every documented case, the orca remained nearby and awaited a human response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Some pauses lasted only a few seconds.
